The 34th America's Cup is more than two years away, but organizers already are working aggressively to get San Franciscans on board for an event that could stretch on for weeks and flood the city with visitors.Members of the America's Cup Event Authority joined city leaders and billionaire software mogul Larry Ellison at City Hall on Wednesday to celebrate the Dec. 31 announcement that San Francisco will host the high-profile regatta in 2013.

"This is a big deal," said Mayor Gavin Newsom, describing the competition as "transformative" to the city and the surrounding region.

Congratulations to the 22 junior sailors for successfully completing the basic beginner sailing course during the Family Sailing Weekend.  This was the second successful event organized by the SYC which included basic sailing theory, practical skills of sailing, nautical language and fun competition.  The kids were amazing on the water and extremely interested in the 'classroom theory.'  For several of the sailors their skills were reinforced by this 2nd event giving them confidence to spend hours on the boats without an instructor/adult (2 Lasers + 2 Optimists + 2 Hobie's, 4 Kayaks and a larger sailboat with cabin).  Members enjoyed free sailing opportunities in perfect winds on great boats!
